Are you browsing for the instances and nothing shows up? One server with 3 instances or three servers with default instance? Just write servername\instancename and make sure browser service is running...

Have you rebooted? I find after new installs or first runs with SSMS that the drop-down is often blank. You can always put it in manually and it will be remembered in your profile going forward.
